I hear it all the time – “Facebook is great and all, but it won’t work for my business.” Or “People don’t buy stuff on Facebook, they just hang out, post pictures, and complain about stuff. Facebook is not a place for businesses.” Totally, totally untrue and I am going to share with you why Facebook is the absolute best marketing for your business on the planet today, period.

So yes, Facebook has the eyeballs (traffic) for sure coming to its platform. But what makes it more exciting is the amount of data they have – and how you can use that to target your marketing. Let me explain.
Every person that has a Facebook account, myself included, has a personal profile. Most people only fill out basic data about themselves initially, but over a period of time Facebook smartly gathers data about your life events, what pages and groups you visit or belong to, what you comment on, and what you click “Like” on. Facebook also makes it super easy for users to update their profile data, like where do they work, what is their job title and function, marital status and whether you have children, your religious and political affiliations, where you went to school, your shopping habits, and so much more. Over time, Facebook has an extensive profile built about you that gives them the edge over Google and YouTube, because this information is self-contained in the ecosystem of Facebook, who also tracks what other websites you visit and adds that to your profile.
Facebook Targeting is Lethal
What this allows marketers to do, is to be able to target their advertising to a very-fine detail of match. For example, do you have a Yoga studio and want more members? You can target your Facebook ad to show ONLY to people who are in the zip code your studio is and whatever radius of distance around that, who are females between the ages of 24 and 55, who are mothers with a family income of $100k or more, who are interested in or purchased capris or crops, and like healthy eating. WHOA!
When you are able to target your ad to show only to the people that are your best potential customers, and at times you want them to potentially see it, your advertising can produce really fantastic results.
